Nestled in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, The Island in Pigeon Forge is one of the area’s most vibrant entertainment complexes. From boutique shops and delicious restaurants to family-friendly rides and mesmerizing fountain shows, there’s something for everyone. We recently stayed onsite at the Margaritaville Island Hotel during the exciting Dinosaur Invasion event, and it gave us the perfect chance to experience everything The Island has to offer from morning until night.

In this guide, we’re breaking down all the must-visit spots, money-saving tips, and unique experiences that make The Island a top destination in Pigeon Forge.

Staying at Margaritaville Island Hotel

One of the best ways to fully enjoy The Island is by staying right in the middle of the action. Margaritaville Island Hotel offers spacious rooms, fountain-view balconies, and the perfect blend of resort-style amenities and Smoky Mountain charm.

We stayed during the Dinosaur Invasion, a special event where life-size animatronic dinosaurs roamed the complex, making it extra fun for kids and adults alike. Watching a towering T-Rex glide past the fountain from our balcony was an experience we won’t soon forget!

Staying onsite made it easy to enjoy late-night treats, early morning coffee runs to Starbucks, and quick breaks in the room before heading out for more shopping or rides. Plus, we loved the relaxing rooftop pool and the welcoming staff that made us feel right at home.

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel – Standing at 200 feet tall, this Ferris wheel is one of the most iconic attractions in Pigeon Forge. The fully enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas make it a comfortable ride year-round, and the sweeping mountain views are breathtaking.

SkyFly: Soar America – This immersive flying theater takes you on a simulated journey over America’s most stunning landscapes. The realistic movement and sensory effects (like wind and scents) make you feel like you’re really soaring.

Island Ropes Course – A two-story ropes adventure that challenges you to navigate swinging bridges, rope ladders, and other obstacles. There’s even a smaller SkyTykes course designed for younger children.

Thunderdome Bungee Dome – A favorite for thrill seekers! Bounce and flip on the giant trampolines while securely harnessed, getting a rush of adrenaline with every jump.

Flying Horse Carousel – Perfect for kids (and kids at heart), this colorful carousel is a classic ride with beautiful horses and lights.

Lil’ Ribbits – A gentle frog-themed ride that bounces up and down, great for younger visitors.

Happy Swing – A small boat-style ride that gently rocks back and forth—ideal for little riders who aren’t quite ready for bigger thrills.

Funny Cars – Kiddos can climb into their own pint-sized race car and drive around a mini track.

You can ride a few attractions in the morning, head back for a break, and return later in the day or even the next day. This flexibility is perfect for families with younger kids or anyone staying onsite at the Margaritaville Island Hotel.

Simply Touring Tip: Time your ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel for sunset—the glowing colors over the Smoky Mountains are absolutely stunning.

One of our favorite discoveries was the Fins Bar & Chill located in the Margaritaville Island Hotel. Their caramel cheesecake is a must-try—it might just be the best we’ve ever had!

Ole Smoky Moonshine

No visit to The Island is complete without a stop at Ole Smoky Tennessee Distillery, the nation’s most visited distillery. Known affectionately as “The Barn,” this rustic-chic tasting room offers guests the chance to sample a wide range of moonshine flavors while learning a little bit about the history and craft of this famous Tennessee spirit.

What You Can Expect

  • Moonshine Tastings – For a small tasting fee (which is typically applied toward a purchase), you can sample some of Ole Smoky’s most popular flavors. Favorites include classics like White Lightnin’ and Apple Pie, as well as fun, unique flavors like Peanut Butter Whiskey and Moonshine Cherries.
  • Live Music & Outdoor Vibes – The Barn frequently features live bluegrass and country music on its outdoor stage, making it a great place to relax with friends or family. Grab a seat on the patio, sip a cocktail, and enjoy the Smoky Mountain atmosphere.

The Fountain

One of the most iconic features of The Island is its dancing fountain, which performs choreographed shows every 30 minutes. Each show blends water, lights, and music for a display that’s mesmerizing to watch, especially after dark.

During our stay, we found ourselves stopping to watch the fountain every time we passed by—it’s a relaxing pause amid the hustle and bustle. If you’re staying at Margaritaville Island Hotel, try to snag a fountain-view balcony for an unbeatable front-row seat.

Parking and Tram Service

Parking at The Island is easy and convenient thanks to the large, free parking lot located just off Teaster Lane. From there, guests can hop on the complimentary tram, which shuttles you directly into the heart of The Island.

We loved how quick and efficient the tram service was—it saved us from walking long distances with kids in tow. For those staying onsite, of course, you can skip the parking altogether and step right outside your hotel door into the action.
