When you’re a family of eight, finding vacation lodging that balances space, comfort, and kid–approved amenities can feel like its own kind of adventure. But during our stay at Sawmill Springs, an American Patriot Getaways cabin, we found a place that checked every box and then added a few more we didn’t even know we needed. Between the indoor pool, spacious layout, and proximity to all the holiday magic of Dollywood and Pigeon Forge, this cabin met all of our needs for our Smoky Mountain holiday adventure!

A Warm, Welcoming Cabin Designed for Big Families

Living Area at Sawmill Springs by American Patrior

Sawmill Springs is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath cabin that sleeps up to 10, which made it the perfect fit for my husband, myself, and our six children. The open layout meant the kids had plenty of room to spread out with games and devices, while the cozy living area gave us a spot to relax around the fire in the evenings. The cabin blends rustic charm with modern comfort complete with wooden beams, warm lighting, a fully equipped kitchen, and bedrooms that feel like their own retreat.

If you’re traveling with a large family or a multigenerational group, having three full bathrooms is a blessing that cannot be overstated. Morning routines went smoothly, baths after Dollywood weren’t a battle, and everyone had their own space to unwind after busy theme park days.

The Star of the Stay: The Indoor Pool

While the cabin’s layout made our stay comfortable, the indoor pool made it unforgettable. No matter how often we travel to the Smokies, the novelty of a private, heated indoor pool never wears off, especially for the kids.

When temperatures drop and mist lingers over the mountains during the holiday season, the ability to swim and play without leaving the cabin is such a luxury.

Our kids splashed for hours, and we loved that it gave them something fun to do in those pockets of downtime between outings. It became our morning wake-up tradition and our evening wind-down activity.

If you’re traveling during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas or in winter months, an indoor pool is one of the best amenities you can treat your family to and Sawmill Springs delivers.

Holiday Adventures Just Minutes Away

One of the best parts of staying in Pigeon Forge this time of year is how close you are to all the seasonal experiences. From the cabin, it was an easy drive to Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, one of our favorite annual traditions. If you’re visiting during November or December, this festival is a must-do, featuring millions of lights, festive shows, incredible décor, and holiday treats that could be their own vacation highlight.

We especially loved pairing our cabin stay with Dollywood’s holiday extras, like rope dropping Santa’s List, which saves so much time later in the day, and enjoying treats such as hot wassail, gingerbread funnel cake, or the classic cinnamon bread from The Grist Mill.

Pigeon Forge Dining That Complements a Cabin Stay

Because the cabin was so close to Pigeon Forge, we also took the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite restaurants, many of which I’ve shared in depth on Simply Touring.

  • Huck Finn’s Catfish – A family-friendly favorite with bottomless vittles and the type of Southern comfort food that hits even better after a cold winter day.
  • Applewood Farmhouse Grill – Between the apple fritters, julep, and hearty entrees, it’s the perfect holiday-season meal.
  • The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar (Gatlinburg) – Not dinner, but absolutely an event. Seasonal milkshakes make it a fun nighttime outing.
  • The Island in Pigeon Forge – From Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen to Margaritaville, it’s a great spot for dinner, wandering, and watching the fountain lights before heading back to your cozy cabin.

Having a full kitchen in Sawmill Springs also meant we could enjoy slow mornings with breakfast at “home,” snacks on our schedule, and holiday baking with the kids. If you love blending dining out with cabin downtime, this setup is ideal.
